Hmm. This came out some weeks ago and could be interesting if you need to sketch out some ideas? One of the selling points is the midi export and direct recording...

Here is the Play Store information:

Compose, Play and Learn.
The first thing you see is the piano. Here is a lot more than a playing piano..

This app gives you writing tools and a virtual band in your pocket with which to compose and record great music.
We have tried hard to make it easy enough for the beginner to write songs, yet useful enough to be great tool for experienced musicians.

Now with a full sequencer editor! This means you can edit your song by simply dragging notes around, so you can arrange to get perfect piano notes or drum hits.

This music studio is not so mini, with features that are not normally seen on mobile (such as editable note strength).

Built with touch controls in mind from the ground up, makes this a dream to use. Unlike some other attempts, our controls are not too small to use, making it suitable for smaller screens too.

Write the next hit pop song or epic rock ballad.

Five octave touch piano.
Multi-instrument keyboard.
Adjustable on-screen key size.
Virtual drum-kit.
Full editor / sequencer.
Editable note strength.
Multi-channel mixer.
Export MIDI.
Make accompanying tracks.
Record performance.
Designed for touch from the ground up.
Easy to use.

Add tracks for guitar, flute, and violin, to add depth to your songs.

As every experienced musician knows, almost everything pro supports MIDI so this is MIDI compatible too, so you can import/export your musical work..

A lot of work has gone into this. It's little more than the price of a coffee!
A limited free (ad supported) version is available to try and test before you buy.

Phase Pendulum - Experimental Sequencer/Sound generator

4/20/2015

Picture
The same developer that made MusicBox3D that got mentioned some weeks ago have recently released this one to that is a experimental sequencer type of app. It is described as this:

This app is an audio-visual synthetizer based on harmonic motion, it enables to explore a physical simulation of pendulum oscillations through random motion, beating, travelling waves or standing waves are at the tips of your finger.Parameters of the simulation such as synchronisation or travelling speed are tweakable. Sound parameters will enable you to explore several harmonic mapping from consonant to most 'bizarre' ones.

It can be used for interesting recordings and it is for free.
Will also mention that the developer also have a older application that I never mentioned called
Springsv3 and Springs that is possible to see in action after the Phase Pendulum video.

MoonooM - Twenty walks deep. My latest track

4/19/2015

This is the latest track that I finished yesterday under the name MoonooM. It is made mostly in SunVox using some Sound generators and using SunVox samplers for Basstation (the nineties version) samples and Cello instruments. Added percussion plus some more effects in the mixing in Reaper. So not a full SunVox production as the percussion would have been too much to do in SunVox...

Amplitube UA - Amplitube for coming Audio interface

4/18/2015

Picture
So IK Multimedia will release a interface for Android that will work on Android 4,2 or over and Amplitube will be for free with some amplifiers etc in combination with the interface called
iRig UA. The release is set for May but it is possible to test the Amplitube with demo riffs as can be seen in one of the videos below.

Here is the Play Store info:

Your guitar tone on your Android phone - A complete professional guitar & bass multi-effects processor for all Android smartphone and tablet devices
AmpliTube UA is the revolutionary free companion app to iRig UA. It lets you turn any Android device* into the ultimate mobile guitar and bass multi-effects processor. With it, you can enjoy the high-quality sonic sculpting flexibility that’s made AmpliTube the go-to app for mobile musicians. Now you can finally harness the power of AmpliTube’s massive and expandable collection of ultra-realistic virtual amplifiers, stompbox effects, cabinets and more on your Android phone, no matter what make or model it is.

AmpliTube UA is a free and comes with a complete assortment of meticulously recreated virtual versions of some of the most coveted gear on the planet. It comes with 21 pieces of gear (free for iRig UA users), that can be expanded up to 43 by in app purchases. You get 9 effects: Noise Filter, Delay, Overdrive, Wah, Chorus, Flanger, Phazer and Octave (plus Distortion upon registration). You can then use these stomps with 5 amplifiers with matching cabinets: Lead, Clean, Bass, Crunch and Metal. You even get two microphones (dynamic and condenser) that you can use to virtually position and mike your setup. In other words, it gives you everything you need to create killer tone no matter whether you’re looking to shred like Slash and Jimi Hendrix™ or play more mellow jazz, country or folk — the possibilities are limitless. And, as if that wasn’t enough, you can also expand AmpliTube UA with a-la-carte gear and bundles from world-class brands like Fender®, Orange®, Ampeg®, Soldano® and more. There’s also exclusive content available from our AmpliTube Slash and AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ collections.

To get the most out of AmpliTube UA, you need to pair it with an iRig UA digital audio interface. Combined, the two give musicians the power to play in real-time with no audible device processing delay, a market first for the Android platform.iRig UA’s on-board digital signal processor works in conjunction with AmpliTube UA. And because all of the processing is handled by iRig UA, and not on the Android device, it’s able to provide consistent zero latency performance (down to 2ms round-trip total latency) independent of the make and model of the connected smartphone or tablet.

You can use AmpliTube UA functions in a “preview” mode when an iRig UA is not connected to the device. This allows full use of its generous collection of amplifiers, stompboxes, cabinets and microphones with the provided “dry” audio demo. However, an iRig UA is required for audio-in and guitar processing functionality.

Features:

• First real time guitar and bass mobile multi-effects app for all Android devices
• Zero latency processing on any Android device* when paired with iRig UA
• Full rig with 3 simultaneous stomp boxes, an amp with effects, a cabinet and a mic
• Comes with 9 stompbox effects, 5 amplifiers, 5 cabinets and 2 mics
• Gear library can be expanded with branded gear from Fender, Orange, Ampeg, Soldano and more
• Enhanced presets system
• Chromatic tuner included
• Can be used without iRig UA in a fully functional mode that does not allow audio-in (a dry audio demo is provided for playing purposes)

Two nice free sample packs- KungFu and Cartoon sound FX

Not really a fan of posting sample packs but as these are both nice and professional grade free packs, that are both funky and useful for when there is a time to use these specific types of sound. When listening to the Kung FU sounds can not help but think Wu-tang Clan and their early albums!
There was no pre-listening of the Cartoon sounds to share outside of the web page but they do sound very good and classic as in Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner etc.
The website is a for free sample packs and have not listened to the other ones but they are totally free and there is no need to sign up or anything just press download- Clean looking site and not even pop ups or other irritating shady stuff.

To get them:

Phonopaper - A must see video for experimentalists!

4/16/2015

So this is in Russian and is regarding a contest (finishing 21:st of April) using Phonopaper in a magazine called Popular Mehanics.
Okay so that is cool in itself  but why I urge you to see the video is because they do the Phonopaper bars as graffiti and compose graffiti style!
Ahh have been thinking about this for a long time and here it is.
Plus in the end it ends up being a great abstract painting!
Okay this is making me personally very excited and it may concern only a small group of experimentally minded people admittedly....

Phonopaper code used by AD-agency in advertising campaign

Saw the video and was not totally sure what was going on as my Russian is limited to two words, but it did look interesting and had to ask Mr Nightradio.
It is an ad-campaign created by the Ad-agency SODA.
So recently Phonopaper code was published in a bigger magazine and now used for this.
Pretty funky for a low tech and free app that is based on thinking out of the box!
Mr Nightradio will one day rule the world with his apps and this is just the beginning.

hokum/easementh Nanoloop songs

Here is a Soundcloud collection made by hokum/easementh using Nanoloop and in this case it does not make much difference if they are made specifically on Android but I do think me remember them being made on Android.
Some better than others but all of them interesting and being made in Nanoloop!
Just to mention again that Nanoloop works really well on older devices so if your fancy ass phone breaks down maybe dust of your first smart phone and continue creating.
Or you are after a true and very flexible Chiptune vibe there is very few tools that can get you there as fast and with a lot of character as Nanoloop can.

Caustic - Modular Drums & Arpeggiators

4/8/2015

Ahhh for some true crazy modular madness...
and if you look in the Youtube description that is copied below there is possibilities to download the Caustic file for study.

Youtube description:

Here's another song I created with Caustic. I wanted to try using only ModSynths, even for the percussion parts.

You can download the .caustic project file here: http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/nod...

Instead of creating separate note patterns for each track, I just used one ModSynth as a Master and set it up to send its note patterns to a bunch of other slave ModSynths. Each of those has its own Arpeggiator, with its own sequences, patterns and automation. Playing a single chord in the Master ModSynth creates a bunch of intertwining parts that all fit melodically with the notes being played in the Master ModSynth. And the drum patterns are triggered by the Master ModSynth too. I have separate ModSynths for kick, snare, hi-hat and percussion (plus a bass part and a few synth lines).

Saved By The Bell Theme / Zack Attack cover done entirely in Soundcamp (on the Galaxy S5)

4/7/2015

Picture
Okay so a man called Sean posted a commentary to a earlier post talking about his experience with the Samsung Soundcamp and a link to the video posted here. He used everything in the video with the free versions of the third party apps which is cool (Samsung Soundcamp is free by itself with no restrictions).
In either case first posting the Youtube commentary and then the commentary from Musical Android lastly the video and then will repost the video that he is mentioning.
It is a lot of insight for anyone that is curious about Soundcamp...

Youtube description:

Technical-ish Details:
Video shot on my trusty Epic 4G (the original Galaxy S).
Screen recording done using screencast software baked into my custom ROM, MOAR 6.1:
http://goo.gl/hilFnJ
Special thanks to tdunham for not only making a great ROM, but also trying to help me troubleshoot the pro audio early on.

Everything is tracked and edited in Soundcamp, Samsung's proprietary Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I used the built in midi drum kit/MPC to perform the drum parts, and Heat Synthesizer to perform all the synth parts, then edited them in Soundcamp's surprisingly intuitive and capable MIDI editor.
I tracked guitar with a generic headset splitter adapter like this http://goo.gl/LYBRsR , and all vocals were recorded with the included headset microphone (you can also rig a regular dynamic mic with the right adapters) .
I used AmpliTube Free to add some grit, delay, and reverb to the guitar and lead vocals, then added some of Soundcamp's reverb presets to the backing vocals.

The overall process was surprisingly fun, and though not too difficult, there were a few issues.
There seems to be a glitch with cutting up audio. For some reason it creates a long gradual fade out effect. This meant virtually staying away from all forms of overdubs and audio editing. This is especially tough because there's no compression or volume envelopes to balance individual tracks.
When you reopen a saved project file the audio fx are bypassed, and Heat Synthesizer resets all of its settings as well so I have to tweak the sound every time I open it. Wouldn't be such a big deal, however, Soundcamp's really nice convenient SoundCloud export function exports the files from the saved project when they're offline, so anything that you have to go in and set or tweak will not be set right on export.
And, most likely because I'm running "supported" but older hardware, I think by the end I was running a little low on system resources to handle my project file (2-3 midi tracks and 4 audio tracks with several fx on them), especially when screen recording. They do have a "freeze" function to help cut down on processing needs, though.
Also, it seems like the pro audio functionality fights with Google Now somewhat, so I mostly leave Now disabled when using pro audio on the phone.

All and all, pretty impressed and happy with the functionality, especially as a tool to sketch ideas.

Commentary on the Musical Android post:

I made a video experimenting with Soundcamp and showing off some of the functionality as well, been waiting for low latency on Android since I got my Epic 4G (that didn't involve me dual booting linux anyway).

https://youtu.be/jDYYvlSccu0

There was actually a major (and I do mean major) update between the time I tracked the midi and I tracked the audio, it gave the american version some of the things I noticed Marcus Padrini's video had but mine was lacking up until that point (the s harmonizer, s amp, etc..) and it dramatically improved midi playback for Heat Synthesizer on my phone (galaxy S5).

I touch on a few issues in the description as well, such as conflicts with Google Now and saving Heat Synth settings (though it could be because I'm using the free version), but it also can't handle advanced audio interfaces yet, like my RME Babyface (think that's the SDK, not just Soundcamp, I get a kernel panic when I unplug it in class compliant mode). However, I was able to get sound into it (and back out!) using the USB audio from my Zed10fx, which is just 2 in/2 out stereo channels, the mixer would just be less practical to carry around for remote recording or performing...but it is still pretty awesome.

Well this is great even if it is not for download.
If you have followed this website for a while you already know that I am a big fan of this documentary and did a interview with the director and a review of the film.
If not go now and check out their website and buy or see it for a small sum on their Vimeo channel...
http://europein8bits.com/

There is a lot of Nanoloop being used by the musicians (in Gameboy format) and there is a segment with the developer of Nanoloop in the film.
