SunVox 1.9 Beta - For PC/MAC/Linux

6/29/2015

Was thinking last week what would be in the next SunVox update!
Opened it carefully yesterday as it is like a mini-christmas for me and want to savor every last moment of the new functions and modules.
It looks like another winner!
Have not had time to fully delve into the funkiness but there is a lot of things that can be done with the right creative mind set as always when it comes to what Mr Nightradio implements.
Plus some very nice more traditional things like a second filter module with a higher quality, more midi control and import of loop points for samples etc.
And last but not least it is now possible to use it in Russian! So for people that know SunVox very well (and not living in Russia) confuse your friends and do it in Russian. Even better if the friends have never seen a tracker either as you can be appearing to be the most hipsterest hipster with or without a beard!

There is a free service on their website but if there is a need to use a lot of sampled sounds and soundscapes and no access to a computer this could be worth it.

Note Converter Pro

There is a free app with less functions but for calculating delay and frequency it is good:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lofionic.delayfinder

Play Store description:

Unit converter for musicians + BPM calculator + delay calculator.
Note Converter Pro is a unit converter for musicians, DJ, producers, audio engineers.
It easily converts note to pitch (hertz), note to midi note value, frequency to note, and more...

The app converts a tempo in notes lengths (in milliseconds) or in frequency (Hertz) : this function is also called a delay time calculator, useful for all your tempo-based effects.

When working with audio samples, this app is also useful to calculate the number of samples from a tempo, a note length or a recording time. It also converts a number of samples into tempo or recording time. Different sampling frequencies can be set (32 khz, 44,1 khz, 48 khz...)

The app calculates the delay of sound for any distance, or the distance travelled by sound for any delay.
It also converts audio frequency to wavelength or wavelength to audio frequency.
For the distance and wavelength, you can use these units : meters, feet, inches.

Note Converter Pro features an accurate tempo tap calculator, showing instant and average tempo values (in Beat Per Minute). The Tap Tempo has automatic reset and shows the current tempo type ("adagio", "allegro", "vivace" ...)

This app does not contain ads.

For advanced users : the following default settings can be easily changed :
A440 reference note = A3 (can be set from A3 to A5)
A440 note's pitch = 440 Hz (can be set from 410 to 455 Hz)
Standard sampling frequency : 44.1 khz (can be set from 2 khz to 352,8 khz)

How to Run Android on Your PC: The Best Android Emulators

The best one cost a little bit but seems worth it.
I have been using Bluestacks (had a workshop on how to use music apps) which is okay and for free if you agree to download some garbage games once in a while. The annoying thing is that it emulates a mediocre device!

Mixfader - Seems to be very good for all ya DJ's out there!

This does look like a simple but well crafted hardware and think that if there is any DJ's or dabblers in the art go to the Kickstarter page and check it out in more detail.
It will work ford Android of course as otherwise it would not be mentioned.
It is well over the goal so it will be made and there is also some early bird offers left where it is possible to get it 40 euros cheaper at 69€

Andrig - alternative to iRig UA/Amplitube w/low latency

6/24/2015

Picture
So it is a amplifier/effects app for guitar and they have implemented their own USB driver for low latency. It is hard to tell which sound cards it will work with but the developers have used it extensively with a Behringer UCG102 that is very cheap, one guy on the KVR forum saw it on eBay for 8 euros with shipping and handling!
In either case you can always download it and test it first on the sound card that you have.

Adventure Kids Single waveforms tuned to the C-Note

6/24/2015

Picture
So a person at the Electron (synthesizer, sampler, drum machine company) converted the Adventure Kids Waveforms from D-tuning to C,
For some of you readers that reads this with confusion...
These waveforms are very short samples of sounds that can be loaded into certain synthesizers and samplers to create a wide variety of tones when looped. Adventure Kid have dedicated a lot of time making over four thousand of these but for some reasons tuned them to D.
Rej the developer of Caustic did convert them for use in the SubSynth a long time ago (am not sure if he re--tuned them though and am too lazy to check it right now...)  and can be found on the Caustic website:
http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/node/1197
The apps that can use them is any sampler that can load and loop samples like the sampler in SunVox for example.

It points out a new direction that personally I would never have thought of.
It is one artist that have made scrolling GIF's that can be read with the application and as such get the music or sounds to a much more flexible degree than the static image reading that has been the modus operandi so far.

Oval Android application coming

6/24/2015

Picture
So this very interesting midi controller based on a Hang Drum.
Create Digital Music have tested it and they really like it-
http://createdigitalmusic.com/2015/06/played-oval-digital-hang-drum-amazing/

Yes it will cost a fair amount of money (that seems to be worth it though) but there is good news for us poor souls and that is that there will be a Android application that is meant to go with the hardware but after speaking to one of the developers he sent me the info and it looks like a nice virtual instrument just on it's own.

The Oval App is still in development. But I can tell you what is the Oval App now and what is going to be in for sure.
The Oval App has several sound sets and scales, hang sounds, percusive sounds and some other sounds, at the moment we have a sitar and several fx/pad sounds.
The Oval App allows to apply effects like delay to the sounds played.
The Oval App will have a four track looper to loop the notes played with the Oval.
We are working to allow the user to upload their own sounds.
The Oval App for iOS will be the first to incorporate Bluettoth connectivity with the Oval. We are working to integrate this capability in Oval App for Android too.

The Oval App will be usable without the Oval, but that makes sense only to prepare settings to play the Oval as the Oval App will lack the sensitivity to pressure and velocity and neither the ample space to develop the body gesture way to play the Oval.

FL Studio and minimum specifications pt 2

So after a lot of back and forth that you can read here (and similar on the Imageline forum):
http://www.musicalandroid.com/blog/imageline-what-to-do-if-their-apps-do-not-work-on-your-device
The conclusion is that Google changed in the end of 2014 the grace period from fifteen minutes to two hours and someone actually found a video using FL Studio Mobile on Android 2.3.4 and it seems to run fairly well.
I still have some quibbles but as things are now my main complaints are not valid anymore.

Okay so posted this track a week ago but did not follow the last rule of mixing.
Before letting go let your ears rest a couple of days and do not be so impatient! ha ha
So have remixed and changed some thing in the track and feel that it improved a lot.
Composed totally dry without effects in Caustic and using only synthesizers and single
drum hits. Exported into Reaper where effects got added.
