n-Track Studio now n-Track Studio 8 and updated

There is only two good multitrack DAW's for Android and this is one of them the other being Audio Evolution Mobile. Both of them being competent and good and most importantly both of them allow for USB sound cards to record with minimum (disclaimer; there is always some latency on any system digital or otherwise. Physical nature of things) latency.
There is differences between them that makes it worthwhile to inspect what is your preference.
Not going to list them as both apps have demos and would advice anyone to check it out for themselves plus the workflow is fairly different as well.

Anyway with this upgrade maybe the biggest difference is that n-Track Studio have started using a subscription fee instead. I am normally against it as I prefer to own the software but in this case it is kind of interesting as it probably not often that most people do serious recordings on their mobile devices as it is much more convenient to record on computer. But maybe the computer gets broken, a need to record your guitar playing cousin in hicksville or vacation etc it can be nice to just pay for a month?
It is not too much, one euro for a basic subscription and two for a pro one.
The main difference is 32/64 bit export for the pro version instead of 16/24 bit for the basic.
To be honest do not think that there is a high amount of people that can hear the difference between 24 bit and 32/64 bit.

So that means one euro a month instead of twenty or so which the older version cost and what more or less Audio Evolution cost with the goodies activated.
So after doing the math and unless you need the higher bit rate plus Multichannel USB class-compliant audio interface and only use it for a month or two it becomes pretty cheap.

Ahh yes n-Track Studio also comes with the exciting song collaborating app SongTree incorporated. That could of course become addictive and costly in the end... after five years or so...

The owners of the older Pro version gets four months for free or just do not upgrade to avoid the subscription plan.

The update is:

n-Track 8 is here, with a lot of exciting new features!
- Step Sequencer: create beats, melodies and arpeggions
- Advanced Routing: record/bounce any track to an audio track
- Songtree integration: make music online with a community of talented musicians
- Improved MIDI and Audio editing: MIDI step recording feature, fade in/out curves and more
- Quick Grooves: instantly add drum and bass grooves to your project
- Export at high quality: export your song at 24 and 32 bits
- New and improved UI

Best Smartphones for Storing Music

9/21/2016

Picture
In years gone by, Apple’s iPhone has dominated the mobile sector for music lovers but Android phones have battled back with plenty of gusto in recent times.

You no longer need to spend over the odds for an immense music experience on your smartphone; you can enjoy and listen to your favorite tunes on the latest Android devices – and it would be fair to say that the sound quality is just as good, if not better...

Applications and entertainment are crucial to a mobile phone user’s experience and many customers, mainly youngsters, search for a device that has a USP (unique selling point) that relates specifically to music. However, memory and space is crucial too

After all, shoppers need space for Amazon, online gamers need memory for Lucky Nugget Casino and sports fans need access to the latest news via the FOX Sports app. Here are our three favorite mobile devices for music quality, storage and other entertainment purposes.

Picture
BQ Aquaris M5

For a reliable musical experience, this is the phone for you. The BQ Aquaris is fairly simple but it is effective and consistent; and that is exactly what you want out of a smartphone.

If truth be told, this phone is fairly quiet compared to other devices but users can enhance this by syncing the Dolby Atmos app – which should have been pre-installed before set-up.

This app allows users to receive a 15-20% boost in volume and bass, which will appeal to those who enjoy dance music but don’t want to cause any damage to their ears. All in all, this phone is well worth a look if you are on a tight budget; you won’t regret it...

Picture
Samsung Galaxy S6

One of the most popular phones on the market, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is THE complete device for music, gaming and entertainment. And to be fair, it is an incredible smartphone...

With up to 128GB of memory, the S6 can comfortably hold all of your music and more. It has enough space for thousands of tunes and gamers will also enjoy the appealing user interface.

In fact, you can improve your chances of winning by practicing on the S6 – as many websites are actually much more user-friendly on the S6 platform than they are on other devices.

Picture
Sony Xperia Z5

But the tip of the musical iceberg is the Sony Xperia Z5. The sound quality is simply sublime and much greater than anything else out there – and the dual front-facing speakers are especially helpful for added noise.

The tonality and imagery on screen are phenomenal. The screen is incredibly clear and you would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable musical experience. With the ability to tweak the equaliser, you can tailor your sound depending on what genre you are listening to.

The Sony Xperia Z5 is the pinnacle of musical phones and users will be extremely happy with their device. Sony are widely regarded as one of the biggest and most impressive technology companies in the world and they rarely get things wrong. And they have another roaring success in the Xperia Z5...

So missed some of this but there is still six more contests to go... and the prices are very good.

Here is what is said:

THE OPEN LABS “STAGELIGHT MONTHLY MUSIC CONTEST II” IS A NO PURCHASE NECESSARY CONTEST.
The contest is open to individual, aspiring music artists who are 13 years and older. Your submission must be of an ORIGINAL SONG and you can submit more than one song per month. To submit, simply follow the upload instructions on the contest page and upload either an mp3 or .wav file of your song. Your original song can be with or without lyrics, but must be specific to the month’s genre (i.e. Rock, EDM, Hip Hop or Wild Card). If you haven’t already recorded your song, we recommend you use Stagelight – The Easy Way to Create Music. You can download the app for FREE here ($9.99/USD value).

I would recommend to go the homepage and peep the prices and listen to what people are submitting etc...
So it is not necessary to use Stagelight but can get a paid version for free if signing up for submitting content.

It is nice to see some of the earlier Android apps that are still good being updated.

Here is what is said on their website:

With the latest updates our apps RD4 Groovebox and SPC Music Drum Pad for Android are now Pro Audio feature ready. Improvements in Android 6.0 Marshmallow now allow an audio roundtrip latency below 20ms on Android devices which support this feature. The Pro Audio device feature gives our apps excellent response time, comparable to other well supported pro audio platforms.
At the moment devices we know of that support Android Pro Audio are the Nexus 5X, 6P, 9 and the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1, we hope more devices to come soon. For the technical details on what the Pro Audio device feature consists of, read this article on the Android Authority website.

Would be cool if there was some Android entries this year.
It is a nice contest for the public as afterwards there is always some gems of free music software being released! If you go the website and scroll down it is possible to see the earlier years contestants.

Here is what is said:
http://www.kvraudio.com/news/kvr-developer-challenge-2016-launched-34599

We are very excited to announce the launch of the the KVR Developer Challenge 2016, the sixth free-for-all audio plug-in / audio application / soundware design event.
The "KVR Developer Challenge" is for anyone who develops Audio Plug-ins or Applications and Soundware. The challenge is to create and release a brand new free audio plug-in, application or sound library / pack / set that will benefit the community at large. Creativity is key, it can be as simple or as complex as you want - KVR members will vote on the entries and pick the eventual winner using whatever criteria they choose to.
As usual, KVR Members can make donations to the prize fund via PayPal but as an extra incentive this year there's a special Grand Prize:
Win a free trip to the 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, USA
This year's grand prize is from KVR Audio andNAMM (National Association of Music Merchants). The winning developer will have the opportunity to present their entry at the 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, January 19-22, 2017.
The winning developer will be provided with airfare to/from and hotel accommodation in Anaheim plus promotion and a presentation area at the NAMM Show to share the winning entry. See the rules for more info.
Plus, as always, the winner receives a portion of the donations made by KVR Members.
Due to the timing of this prize the development time is fairly short - you have until the end of November to get your entries in! Voting will then take place in the first couple of weeks in December. Good luck.
For more information on how to enter and/or donate to the prize fund please go to www.kvraudio.com/kvr-developer-challenge/2016

Picture
The developer of this have been working on the sly for some time now on expanding the Caustic universe using the core of the Caustic engine and making it to something even greater than it is. It have passed a lot of time but it seems that it is finally paying off as two of his projects are now being beta tested by some of the best Causticians there is. Anyway this video will probably not make too much sense for the casual reader but you will definitively read the full story soon enough...

Mikrowave - Now with separate instrument wav exports

Picture
It is good to see that this is getting a small but nice update as the developer is spending a lot of time on web based audio (which is pretty cool and will write about it soon). Also gives a reason to bring this interesting application up again as it is one of the more interesting apps for Android there is. Anyone that is looking for a more advanced synthesizer engines that can sound raw should check this out. Plus that it comes with a lot of effects, a simple drum machine and four track sequencer.

As a bonus a video showing what the developer is doing when he is not coding...

It looked more exciting than it was but posting it anyway as maybe someone would find it useful and it is for free... So it is a rain generator with some parameters that can be changed as how far away etc. It would be nice to have something like this that was better as it could fit into a lot of scenarios and to be able to change the sound on the fly is great. Unfortunately this one does not have enough depth to it...

G-Stomper Studio / VA- Beast - Free Salamander Grand Piano

9/10/2016

Picture
Great news! So as said before the VA- Beast (that exists separate and as part of G-Stomper Studio) is the only sampler on Android with velocity layers plus that it is built into the Synthesizer engine meaning that it is possible to use all the modulation and filters etc plus using the second oscillator/sample instrument in conjunction. There is limitless opportunities for sound design and fun! Anyway now there is a free grand piano to download so if you are looking for a serious piano this is a good thing.

Google Play info:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.planeth.vabeastsalamandergrand

VA-Beast Salamander Grand Piano is a FREE Add-On Pack for G-Stomper Studio (full version) and/or G-Stomper VA-Beast Synthesizer (full version).

Note: This package does NOT contain G-Stomper Studio (full version) or G-Stomper VA-Beast Synthesizer (full version).

For using this Content-Pack, G-Stomper Studio (full version) or G-Stomper VA-Beast Synthesizer (full version) must be installed on your device.

This pack provides 1 self-contained VA-Beast Synthesizer preset:
Salamander Grand Piano PH

The preset is based on the 'Salamander Grand Piano V3' linux sampler library by 'Alexander Holm'.

The preset is built of 90 fantastic Stereo Samples:
- 3 Velocity Layers, each with 30 Samples
- Each Sample is used for 3 semi-tones
- Full Sustain Pedal Support
- Mod Wheel acts as Damper Pedal

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The 'Salamander Grand Piano PH' requires around 180mb free sample memory in the host app, means a high powered device is required!
Recommended is a device with a (per app) memory class of 512mb. You can check that in your G-Stomper host app (Main Screen / SETUP / INFO / Memory Class).
Also take note that (for copyright reasons) the underlying Samples are NOT included as separate files, these are bundled in the preset file.

Very special thanks to Alexander for giving the permission to use his library as base for this pack.

IMPORTANT! Start the Content-Pack App and push the install button to install the new Pack Content to the G-Stomper folders.

Supports App2Sd

Permissions:
SdCard read/write: used to install the pack contents
Internet Access and View Network/WIFI State, Wake Lock, Check Licence: required for the download of the large content file
