Samara Morgan Machine - Free Cursed Sample Pack!

10/31/2017

Picture
So this is not a big thing but thought that it could be interesting to share anyway as it is Halloween. Have been obsessing about the character Samara Morgan from the first american "The Ring" film since it got imprinted on my mind twelve years ago.
Liked it so much that have not seen it since, as it should live on untainted in my memory bank forever and be a constant source of inspiration.
In either case was working on some sounds the other day for a song called "Samaras Moon Box" and using the Android app "Flux" through some effects this came out and a lot of the sounds have the same character as Samaras voice.
So if you dare, load them up, take some mushrooms, turn of all the lights and whisper her name.
Then there is seven days to unload the samples unto someone else (as I am doing now...) or death will for certain occur!

Remixlive - Now with better sample editing

10/27/2017

Picture
Remixlive is being sold as a remix of already made loops, but is that really fun for anyone serious about music making?
Luckily it is also possible to do direct recording and load loops all made from scratch. What makes it attractive too is that it is made with performance in mind and as such can be used in live settings and jams.
Like that the effects comes with X-Y pads and not faders or similar.
So it can be a good thing to look into Remixlive if working a lot with samples.

Anyho this is not why this post is being made it was more to mention that it is more control over the sample editing with the latest update which makes things more interesting.

Google Play:
Remixlive

This version adds Waveform zoom, a new feature offering more control and improving the sample editor!
Display samples in full screen and edit them accurately:
- Edit start & end points to create a new loop.
- Adjust ADSR sample parameters to make them crispier or softer.

Glitch! - Photo and Video Glitch app

10/21/2017

By Moon Dub Media

Have tried a lot of the glitch apps with the thought of using it as material for videos.
The one that so far have been the best is Glitch! by Luca Grillo.
Most Glitch apps do not allow for direct video conversion and had to take a lot of photographs and later import into a video editor. There is a fair amount of glitch effects in the free version, but there is a video function in the paid version where it is possible to choose after recording which one you want to use.

It is a little bit of a lie to say that the end product is a video. What really happens it is that the app transforms the video into images and then recompiles them, effectively making more of an animation.
In either case it is excellent for anyone that wants to add a little bit extra to a music video for example. So for me the 3€ spent was a good investment and am having a lot of fun with it!
Yes must mention to that it is actively developed. In the two months it has been installed there has been two/three nice updates.

Photo editing app that allow you to quickly generate random and real glitch in your picture without using photoshop or computer!

Oval - Lots of virtual instruments with FX/filters and more

10/17/2017

Picture
This app is made to work together with a midi controller that is based on the instrument called hang instrument. It seems to be a very nice midi controler but it costs a lot of money...
Luckily for us there is this app that is well made and have loads of virtual instruments inside that is laid out like a hang instrument. So it is of course tied into scales as there is not the full twelve notes. This is an advantage as it makes improvisation easy and the octave changes are easy to implement. Some effects are built in and recording as well.

The sounds are good and there is no ads and free!
Also like that there is midi out, so can be used to control hardware.
One thing to point out is that having this layout breaks the normal piano thinking and at least for me it makes me come up with a different type of playing rhythmically and melodically.
So for live recording very interesting. (Depending on device/latency)

Recommended download.

WIFI Angels - Choir of voices singing Wifi signals

10/16/2017

Picture
is A little bit of time ago wrote about an app that took wifi signals and translated to music sequences.
Well looking around for some choir apps the other day stumbled across this one. It is the same idea but with a
much nicer execution and instead of grungy chiptune noises it using female voices.
It is for free and ad free and looks pretty nice.
Can not be used for too much music wise though, but it is fun to have installed like the other app to directly illustrate how saturated or clean our airwaves are...

Reactable stopped support and development on Android?

10/15/2017

Picture
It seems that Reactable have stopped supporting their online side of things where people could interchange "tables" and so forth. Plus that since they released their new app for iOS the Android app has not been updated. It is a pity as Reactable have been working pretty good on intermediate devices, and if someone is into cooperating or sharing their musical adventures, that is no more.
I wish I could ask them what is going on but as they have never answered me the 3-4 times I have written them since starting this website do not have the energy to write them again.
Just writing this if you have been thinking about getting the app to say that maybe there is no more support and there is no more social networking if you do.

Drone Tone - For instant ambient fix

This is all pre fixed and there is not much to do except put the sounds to be triggered in different ways, but it sounds great and think that to kickstart or get some ideas for ambient works it functions just fine.

An ominous sound toy.

Theremin - By Luke Phillips

10/11/2017

Picture
Member the good old days on Android when every second music app that came was a Theremin based app? And now there is a new one from the late 2016 that looks good (have not tried it as my Google Play is hooked up to Paypal and that account is empty at the moment Wink Wink...).
Some effects and other parameters to adjust.

The developer is also hold accountable for a web app called BlokDust.

BlokDust:
https://blokdust.com/

Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.femurdesign.theremin

This is a multitouch synth instrument. Play it by touching and swiping the screen, changing the waveforms and sliding the effects to create anything from traditional sci-fi theremin sounds to deep scuzzy soundscapes. Use the looper controls to record, loop and overdub layers. Then if you wish to save or share your recording, hit the download button to send your wav file to other compatible apps like Messages, Email, Dropbox etc.

The original Theremin went live in 2014 on the web at femurdesign.com/theremin. Over a million hits later and hundreds of requests for a record button, I have redesigned it. Now the Theremin is ready for you to experiment with.

Happy playing!

-- SPECIFICATIONS --

• Record, loop and overdub options.
• Multitouch allows up to 8 tones to be played simultaneously with your fingers
• 3 sliders: delay, feedback and scuzz
• 4 waveforms: sine, square, triangle and saw
• No internet needed, works both online and offline
• Download the loop as a .wav file
• Loops can be shared with other apps like Mail, Message and more.
• Optimized for mobile, tablet and large screen

-- REVIEWS --

Gizmodo "Just mess around! Twiddle those faders! Swipe and click with reckless abandon! Turn the volume all the way up, give the dog a panic fit, and make your neighbours think the street's being invaded by giant cabbage people from planet Zok. Trust me, this will never get old.”

Dangerous Minds “New online theremin simulator kind of sounds cooler than the real thing. Check it out and annoy your co-workers.”

Mashable “Messing around with this virtual theremin is completely addicting”

ScreenSynth - Fretboard instead of piano based on DX7 engine

10/8/2017

Picture
Interesting app for all string players as it can be set for different string instruments.
Interesting too is that it can be used for connecting to outboard gear playing your hardware synths with a string layout (have not tried this).
There is no tweakability of the synthesizer engine and it comes with some DX7 presets but can import more patches that there is a lot of or create your own with a DX7 app on Android.
There is however both bending and sliding of the strings plus that it can gauge how hard you are playing.

One thing that is maybe not intentional but that personally find cool is that it is very easy to get instability to the sound because of the bend/slide built in making it sound warbly in old tape/VHS way. Should check today when connecting if this also works connecting it to hardware!

There is a free version to try everything out first but it is pretty cheap for the full version.
Unfortunately the videos made does  are not too exciting but post one in either case where you can see the built in function of learning songs from midi files that can be imported.

Riffshare - Simple but potent multi track composing

10/7/2017

Picture
This developer have been around for a long time and the main idea of his earlier work has been the same as this latest one. Which is to make a multi track sequencer without much bells and whistles but fast to work with and still get good results.

I get the feeling too that it is meant to be for practicing which it would be good for. Just to lay some drums and bass for example and then play guitar to it etc.

One thing that is not seen in other apps on Android is the sequencer (it is possible to do the same things in most DAW's if one feels so inclined). There is no stepping in and out of different tracks, everything is on track and the instruments can be chosen from the sidebar.
So it is very simple to differentiate the different tracks and instruments as they are colour coded. This is great as you can see what any given track is up to while composing.

It is for free, no publicity and open source!
