Happy New Year! Some last day ramblings...

2018 was slightly slow in the music app department...
Maybe it was just a warm up for 2019?

SunVox had a good update as every year. G-Stomper is constantly improving. Stagelight was going strong with their new expressive Sampler/instrument, Grainstorm putting more and more functions inside...

New apps of interest, not so many...
The biggest news flew under the radar as it still is listed as Beta and it is the workstation KDJ-ONE,
then Fang Synth was cool as is by the same developer, Dragon (Gritty, Low bit Drum Synth), Drum PadBeats is a good one for triggering/sequencing loops and samples and for combining with Caustic projects.
Also need to mention Tonebars which is a good one for droney stuff,
MendelTone came out with magnificient glitch and noise potential reminding me that Noise Machine came out with an update...
HumBeatz was surprisingly working in converting hums into notes and getting jams going.

Mikrosonic the developers of some of the earliest Android music apps are still going strong releasing updates recently to their apps! So big up to them.
Another big, big up is for the n-Track Studio developers for putting AudioRoute out there for free for anyone to use so Android can become app interconnected!

On the downside we have Samsung that took one of Androids workstations for Samsung devices and buried it. They could have at least let the code free for others to develop and use!
So Buuu to Samsung for that.
Also let down that it seems that Reactable is not being developed anymore...

Also have noticed that Google Play have started to pull older apps that are no longer developed from the Playstore... So one app for example that still works real good on newer devices are Droiditar, now gone.
It is my favorite virtual instrument and have always worked with low latency. (Luckily encountered an APK in the wild wanting to install it on a new device... After trying to find out anything about where the developers went without any success... Was hoping that they could be reached and be able to offer it on Musical Android but alas...)
The moral of the above story... be careful uninstalling older apps that have not been updated for a long time if caring about them...

2019 have some interesting things in store.

The G-Stomper family will continue to grow. Introducing G-Stomper P (Producer) a more workstation/sequencer approach and with less of a  Beatbox approach than G-Stomper Studio.

Nanoloop is undergoing some transformations with more synthesis and other goodies coming... Tried the Beta that looked like it would be coming with some excellent additions but it was still too rough for me about a month ago...

Am playing with a Beta of a new app now though that is real fun and it is a granular playground being very hands on called SpaceCraft. It is soon to be released on Android and already out there for iOS.
There is a lot of videos already to look at if curious.
Very easy to get interesting and good results with.
Striking a perfect balance of depth and ease of use, plus most importantly being very inspiring. Can also be used with midi keyboard and there is a lot of new timbres and sounds that is hard to get otherwise to play with as keyboardist...

Ahh, also should mention my deal of the year... Not a big deal but nice.
As IK Multimedia have released a new version of the iRig guitar cable interface, there is now possible to buy the first version for almost nothing from China.
Comes without a fancy box but costed me less than 2.50 in monies including postage..... Worked fine. Had to wait like six weeks though...
Good for sampling things into a device. Like to sample things from one device to another for example... plus that it has output for headpones built into it.
Hmm... Should order one or two more if one gets lost or as a nice small gift...

Sure that there is things being missed but let us know in the comment section if there is.

Am sure that 2019 will be a good year for Android music making with latency finally being under control on newer devices and Android Operating systems, and hopefully having more Android developers taking advantage of Audioroute!

Kisses and hugs to all readers and cats, let the celebrations begin!

Gnaural - Binaural Beats and some reflections...

Binaural beats is two differing frequencies being panned left and right in the stereo field, creating a third frequency.
In effect it is an auditory illusion.
For sure a lot of people reading this already have been playing around with this either as a way to aid in meditation or in high hopes of emulating the experience of illicit substances. For the ones that have not heard about binaural beats it is worth taking a look at the phenomena.
It is basically a way to program the brain into different states and a session with binaural beats can entail going from one state to another. Normally people use it for meditation but one of the more spectacular claims is that it can get you high. this have not been working for me but maybe you are one of the lucky ones! Then it is supposed that it can help your brain being more receptive for learning and many other things.

So being a meditator since a early age (sporadically I admit, maybe a month or two every day then a year can pass...) I always had an interest in this and tried one machine in a store in the late eighties. It was in a store full of people and there was roadwork going on outside. They were drilling holes into the asphalt. Still I did get into a meditative state!
Never could afford the machine but soon with computers being cheaper I have been playing with it once in a while mostly trying to get an out of body experience! (This still being an experience that have eluded me unfortunately!)
Last year was getting into heavy meditation for about four months and meditated for about one to two hours daily. Then started using binaural beats for about two weeks. After stopping this and going back to normal meditation practice I noticed that it kind of had phucked up my meditations. The quality of the meditations were worse and it was hard to get into it. Just want to mention this if any readers are meditating regularly. This probably is different from person to person but just to put it out there.
If there is an interest in meditating or at least to have some experience of what it kind of feels like it is a great short cut. Start with ten to fifteen minutes programs and sit comfortably with a straight back. And yes there is no need for sitting in a lotus position or anything else just try to empty your mind and listen to the tone being generated.

This is frequencies and tones being generated so it can also be used in music. What probably is the first thing to come to mind is mixing it into ambient music as it can enhance the listening experience and aid in getting the listener into a semi-meditative state. But why not in for example minimal techno as well or any music aiming for a trance like state.

There is a lot of binaural beats apps for Android and most of them come with already made presets, in wav and with publicity. My recommendation is Gnaural. There is a main program that is very easy to use, setting the length and the frequencies in a time chart.
Picture
The main program is for Windows/Mac/Linux and it is for free!
Then there is a Android version that have a full working version with no publicity for free or a paid version for the generous person. It is not possible to program it and it just plays the presets that have been made already. The good thing is that it is synthesizing everything in real time so it does not take any real space on the device being used. There is a lot of presets to download from the website to start to experiment with but like said to make your own is very easy.

So to change your brainwaves, read some more and download the program go to:

SunVox plus Paper Camera

These videos where something that I did a long time ago and always thought that with a little bit of work the same idea can be polished a little bit and so have a simple music video made.
The sound is directly from speakers into microphone on the telephone so it sounds like
caca-culo but the idea is the important thing in either case.
As SunVox is scalable both the screen and the modules in it, it is possible to get a close up of the animations in them. (Plus that one may choose different types of animation in the modules.)
Then filmed using the application Paper Camera and different filters.
So it is filmed directly from the screen which adds its own distortions and interest. Which for me is more interesting as it adds more grit and imperfection instead of making something in a computer.
Paper camera only renders its videos into Webm format so if a need arise to edit something together it is necessary to find a video converter as there seems to be hardly no video editors that allows for that format. But there is some converters to be found for free on the interwebs.

Okay so posted this track a week ago but did not follow the last rule of mixing.
Before letting go let your ears rest a couple of days and do not be so impatient! ha ha
So have remixed and changed some thing in the track and feel that it improved a lot.
Composed totally dry without effects in Caustic and using only synthesizers and single
drum hits. Exported into Reaper where effects got added.
