Amdusias Cruising - Music video made with Mobile phone

By Cosmo Koroly

So the music is made by Frank Malm under the guise of Subliminal Moon and I wanted to do a test to see the quality using a mobile phone for filming. The video has some things to be desired but there is some parts that I think came out pretty successful. Also learned a lot specially what kind of lights would be more effective. There was two mobile used one Samsung Galaxy S3 and one Samsung S6. The S6 comes into play in the end of the video and feels that it is more digital but I think it has to do with that on the other mobile the ASA is set to 800 and gives a grainier look and to me looks more organic. There was no special lights used and it does look good under low lightning and feels better than the parts with more full on lights.
All the filming was done in just a little bit more than one hour as it was late wanting to film when it was dark outside. The children wanted to eat...
But that was great as it was another thing to see what can be accomplished under such conditions. Because if this is the result being rushed it can get very good if there is some time to plan the shots and rig the lightning better and in general plan everything more.
Need to point out though that it is edited in a desktop as do not want to torture myself editing on a small screen with too many limitations.
Maybe worth mentioning to that everything was filmed with hand held camera and with still shots as one thing that mobiles are not so good at is to have faster movements.
The movement can in part be added in the editing afterwards. It is just something to have in mind.
Frank is working on a new track and we will do another short film with mobiles but this time put in some more effort!

P.S- The music is composed in Caustic without effects and mixed in Reaper.

PhonoPaper - Another Magick app from Mr Nightradio

In my post about the update of Virtual ANS it got mentioned that there was an image export added called PhonoPaper and I was speculating.
Happily my speculations were totally off and it was much more interesting than that.
The export was for generating images of your Virtual ANS creations that you can use for PhonoPaper that Mr Nightradio released the day after.
So PhonoPaper is in the same family as Virtual ANS and uses the same sound engine.
What it does is reading audio from print. Anything that you can print on.
It reads it like a barcode outputting sound as long as it is in between lines on the top and bottom like this:
Picture
There is videos and the explanation on the Play Store but here is some things that entered into my mind since it came out.
First of all you can draw or paint the lines on top and bottom and they do not have to be perfect. I did some experiments last night painting on canvas and the idea was to see how exact the lines had to be painted and in the end I just painted by eye without guidelines being too lazy recovering from sickness but it worked.. They still have to be more or less aligned but you can more or less do it by hand or with a ruler.
I can see that it becomes a very nice alternative to sculpting sound  in the way if you learn to draw the sounds that you like you can repeat that anywhere in the end having built up a set of sounds to use on any flat surface with any material. Open up the PhonoPaper application and use those symbols playing a piece of music or a longer performance.
It is interesting to if some people come together for jamming.
Drawing / Painting as playable presets directly from your hand / mind.
It can easily be used as a portable sound set using live just lay out the paper with prints on them or hang them up around you. Direct the camera towards the paper and it will play the sound with you controlling which parts and speed it reads the images. Visually it can be both beautiful and different.
It is funny to see the pictures on the play Store as it show that they can more or less far away, hanging sideways and PhonoPaper can still read it.
Soundwise you can accomplish the same sounds as in Virtual ANS which is interesting as you can get words and whole music out of it as you can hear in the videos below.
The other day I fed a whole minimal techno track into Virtual ANS and it came out really good. What suffers most is the bass as it easily break up.
This you can print and as size do not matter as long as someone can keep the top and bottom lines visible on the camera screen. So everything from a wall to small messages on small pieces of paper.
It could be nice to do some pieces of music to hang in different places even though very few people for some time to come will know what it is.

So you can record sound but not take photographs and you can not import images or sound so the best way to be more flexible in creating prints is of course with Virtual ANS that import any image or soundfile. Print them from Virtual ANS and play them with PhotoSounder. But like said you can also create any visual file and use any size that the camera can take in.
As a parent I am looking forward to print out some paper with the lines in place and feed them to my daughter of four years that have a older phone that runs Android 2.3.3 but enough for PhonoPaper and see if she gets hooked on drawing sounds?
Okay what can I say for me this is more Mr Nightradio Magick. The third in a bout a year!
First Pixivisor then Virtual ANS and now PhonoPaper.
It is accessible, for free (totally self contained, no internet or permissions) and there is endless creative possibilities opening up with something that could be dismissed if someone has a very short attention span.
Look at the videos and test it out. I know there is some people that is going to dismiss it but there is going to be some that like me is going to be very excited and hopefully push this concept further as it has the flavor of something that can push limits not foreseeable.
Here is a simple template if you feel like drawing painting lines instead of printing them.

There was some negative comments but there has been some updates already fixing it.

Virtual ANS 2.0 - YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picture
It came creeping into my existence around ten O'Clock  yesterday evening Spanish time.
Saw it announced and went directly to the website of Mr Nightradio to see these images as a first impression...
I knew when Virtual ANS 2.0 was announced about two months ago that it was going to be something special seeing these images it was confirmed.
Opening it up it was more than confirmed!
VERY INSPIRING!!!
It begs to be fucked with and it hurts your head not because it is hard to use,
but because you get the  inspiration to do and try fifty things at the same time!
It has soooo many possibilities and at the same time not being hard to use.
Very Intuitive.

Some thoughts:

How cool is it that Richard Devine was using it already an hour after it came out-
There is even a small Vine Video that he made and posted on Twitter!

It is made with Pixilang and never thought that Pixilang could be this advanced.
Also being made in Pixilang you can code modifications....
(Next month Swear to all the holy cats of the universe that I will start to learn programming!)

It is for free for PC / Linux / OSX and in these versions you can even use it with midi keyboard.

There is nothing like it for Android-
If you are interested in sound design and new sounds this is a must!

You can create full pieces of music with this as it is possible to use the sounds sequenced.

It is really easy to use as an instrument if you set it up beforehand.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is not going to be a review of this as there is already five videos
and it is not much more to say!
Except that it is amazing and all you have to do is to see the videos and thats it!
Or even better try it for free on your PC / OSX / Linux.
Or why not just buy it...
Or make your own in Pixilang.

This track is made using the Virtual ANS for P.C that was mentioned some posts ago.
Soon coming in upgraded version for Android amongst other Operating Systems.
The pictures above was used to make the sounds that later got transferred to SunVox and sequenced.
To  me the sound is very interesting and look forward to have it directly in my devices!

Mr nightradio conjures up another magickal application!

Always had this feeling that Mr Nightradio had a deep interest in the occult.
It always felt to that SunVox came from an alternative universe in look and feeling.
My suspicions grew deeper when he did Pixivisor and as far as I am concerned maybe the supreme magickal application for Android.

Now he is developing for Android (and also- iOS, Windows, Linux and OSX )
an older sound generator/ Synthesizer of his called Virtual ANS.
Based on a type of synthesis developed by a Russian called Evgeny Murzin in between 1937 to 1957  being influenced by a Theosophist going by the name Alexander Nikolayevich Scriabin.
Now there is only one left standing in a basement in Russia but it did not stop one of the better magickal bands Coil to seek it out and do a 3 CD box set in 2004 made with this last synthesizer of it's kind.
So you see that there is a magickal connection here.
Guess we will draw Sigils directly in this magick application and see what happens!!!
Oh my goodness what will happen if we at the same time use Pixivisor to send magickal images through the air!!!

We can already get our virtual hands on it now in the current free version for P.C from here:

http://warmplace.ru/soft/ans/

And here is also a longer album that have been made using only Mr Nightradios Virtual ANS by a Artist called Fleshy Timeclock.
But the version you can download now has some limits to it as you load images or draw your own but you have to render it and then it will play the image as a piece of music.
So think it can be worth waiting for the new version which will include a direct interaction with it without the rendering.

So as you can tell it is good for ambient soundscapes and mysterious textures and that will be a very nice addition to the Android music universe.
The only one that kind of can do it now would be Flux by Binaura but this one will have more sound shaping possibilities.
So it is not out yet, but as my mind got so excited about the news just wanted to share so I do not have to be alone waiting for this for another month or two.

Lastly a shorter radio program for BBC that talks about the ANS synthesizer.
