Okay so the other day posted about a small but nice little app called rainstick. This is the same developer but this app is part of a bigger project that is very interesting that have been written about before here but this is a good reminder.
So this app is a new addition to something that the developer calls Puredata Party Publisher and that is a gang of apps that can play together through Wifi tight and syncronized.
Not only this but on the website there is information how to do apps for Android using Pure Data and also they want people to get involved.

What is great is not only that the apps are good but it is all for free and without publicity!
Personally I am happy that the project is continuing plus that the developer is doing other apps as well as I like what he has been doing before and lately been missing some of the smaller quirky Android apps (the apps that are outside of this bigger project) that was pretty common place two years back.

Website to read about the whole project:

http://b2renger.github.io/PdDroidPublisher/

Google Play info:

PPP-LooperSynth

PPP-LooperSynth is meant to be used with other PPP instruments.

PPP-LooperSynth is a polyphonic synth coupled to a hexagonal keyboard layout. The controls allow you either to play it like a classic keyboard, but it can also record the notes you play in a 16 step sequencer and play them back as a loop.

PPP is a framework offering to support midi jamming over wifi features to audio applications and instruments. That means that apps can be connected to each other over wifi with a slave/master paradigm, enabling each sequencer to be in synch with each others. It can of course be used as a standalone sequencer. More here : http://ppp.mgsx.net

Wrote about Pure Data Party Publisher before but it is worth writing about again if missed.
So this is apps that can be connected together for jamming over wifi.
There is a lot of more information on their website plus a lot of information on how to convert Pure Data patches into Android apps plus to make more apps to work in the Pure Data Party Publishers network.
The apps are all for free and no publicity!

So go here and learn more:
http://b2renger.github.io/PdDroidPublisher/

In either case there is a new addition to the family called Manoury plus videos covering the different apps.

Google Play info regarding Manoury:

PPP-Manoury is meant to be used with other PPP instruments.
PPP-Manoury is a polyphonic 4 step sequencer ! 4 step is not much, but each step has a probability factor. The synth is a classic additive synth chained to a resonant filter and a 4 tape delay. With the right set of parameters you can go from 80s classics to deep generative textures.

If using Pure Data I guess this must be a DAW that would be highly interesting!
I asked n-Track Studio if it would be integrated into the Android version of n-track Studio as well and it seems that there is a possibility!
That would be amazing as there is a lot of instruments and effects made already to be used even if there is no knowledge on how to use Pure Data.
Songtree is also implemented directly into the DAW which is enticing if you are a user of Songtree on Android.

Pure Data Party - Now out of Beta

Wrote about this some posts ago and it was still in Beta but now it is released into the wild!
So it is for now four applications that can be synchronized together for jamming.
The plan is to release more of them and it seems that one of them will be a Byte beat type of app which is always welcome in my book.

The developers have also reminded me that it is not necessary to use midi to synchronize the apps together but it also possible to create a hotspot on one device and you are good to go.
There is also the possibility to use the local IP address.
You can read more about it here and if hooking up the apps this way there should be no latency according to the website!

To read about it and see a video on how to do it (it is not complex) go here:
http://b2renger.github.io/PdDroidPublisher/2015/11/01/How_to_jam_alone.html

To get the different apps that can be hooked up for jamming and read more about the project and a much more if you are interested in using Pure Data for making apps or for contributing with more jammable apps go here:

Pure Data Party - This is amazingly cool!

 Great initiative by two developers.
The main reason for developing this project is to be able to make Pure Data applications connectable through WiFi.
But they have also started developing some applications. Four of them so far with different functions- A drum machine using drum synthesis, a wobble machine, a acid type synthesizer and a Rhode/chord application.
So it is possible to start to jam already now.
You have to go their website and sign up as a tester and it will take you to the Play Store download links. (For some reason it did not want o show me the page first but after going back and forth for a while I did manage to get the apps downloaded, just saying if it happens to you.)
It is also still in Beta stage so there may be some bugs to be sorted out. But the apps seemed pretty stable to me. Unfortunately I have not been able to try them over WiFi as i do not have it at home...

But one more thing that is very cool is that they have very detailed instructions on how to take Pure Data patches and compile them into APK's.
So this is something that was kind of hard to find out how to do before.
So if you are interested in making music apps for Android this is probably the easiest way to do it. Well it is necessary to learn Pure Data of course.
But that is something that can come in very useful as there is some very interesting things that are coming. For example there will be a VST plug in that can load Pure Data Patches and
n-Track Studio (a DAW) will be able to load Pure Data Patches directly.
The developer have also told me that they may incorporate it into their Android app as well!

To be able to start doing Pure Data patches on Android there is app that can be used for making patches on called mPD.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mpd

In either case go and check out the Pure Data Party website and add to the list of
jammable apps!

Ninja Jamm Sync Jams demo Berlin Oct 2015

This is just very cool!
It just confirms that Pure Data is probably the greatest secret out there for music making on Android once again. There is so much advantages of learning Pure Data and as not only is it the easiest way to make good music apps for Android if you are a non-programmer there already exists two apps (MobMuPlat and mPD) that allows for importing Pure Data patches into Android directly. Meaning that learning just a little bit you can use patches of all kinds directly on a device.
So that also means that there is a lot of great music apps for free!
The above was a small diversion as I wanted to being up Pure Data again and hit myself over the head for not getting deeper into it! Learned the basics over a year ago but got distracted. After Mobmuplat was released felt that I am an idiot for not taking time for it!
Seeing this video just makes it even more poignant.
So Jamm Sync is open source code and works for Python as well.
https://github.com/chr15m/SyncJams

Respect to Ninja Jamms for letting the code graze the open source landscape!

P.S - mPD is for making Pure Data patches directly on a device which makes it excellent for learning Pure Data on the go. Plus that it is all made in Pure Data basic meaning that the patches you make will work excellent for making full on apps on Android easier in comparison to using Pure Data extended...

mPD - Make Pure Data patches directly on your device!

Hey so if you use Pure Data this is a must as it allows the creation of patches directly on your device in a very elegant way.
If you do not use pure data maybe this is the excuse you need to start learning it as with this app you can make patches on the go or just take advantage of patches that has been made already by others.
It is "restricted" to Pure Data Vanilla meaning that extensions to Pure Data made by users are not allowed but it is hardly restrictive as almost anything that can be thought of as a music app is covered.
Really recommend for people to check out Pure Data and see if it is not worth the effort as it is for free and very deep if you want it to be. In a sense this and MobMuPlat is maybe the most advanced music apps available for Android! As even without any skill in doing patches there is so much made already.
Have not learned it in any kind of depth but was studying some this summer and even though it is not a stroll in the park it is not very hard either if you get into the concept ( talking as a non programmer ) and it has the added bonus of actually learning the basics of other programming languages as the principles are the same except that Pure Data is exclusively made for musical
( and some graphic ) intentions and is easier to use for people that are more visually inclined as it is not writing code but the code is in the form of boxes interconnected so you can see the relationship between the different programming commands which can be hard with written code...
It is for free and works as is visible in the picture below- All the different commands are on the right side and it is just to drag them out and place them and make your patches.

So now there is two excellent apps for Pure Data usage!
MobMuPLat that allows already made patches to be turned into Android apps with an interface and this one where you can make the patches on the go, or load patches and use without a nice GUI but this can be loaded into the free desktop part of MobMuPlat and then add a fancier GUI?
In either case it is amazing that this possibility exists!
There is a lot of tutorials and books etc how to use Pure Data that is available through the Pure Data website or Youtube etc.

MobMuPlat - Pure Data Patches with interface for your device!

Maybe one of the coolest apps you can get for Android!
Have mentioned Pure Data sometimes but if you do not know what it is...
Pure Data is a visual programing language built around the concept of modules instead of writing code. It is all based around musical functions (and some graphical possibilities).
It does not demand a whole lot of knowledge and there already exists a lot of patches that people made and it already exists patches for MobMuPlat as it have been available for iOS for a while already, meaning that you do not have to learn to do anything in Pure Data and just take advantage of what have been made already. For example in the videos posted there is links on the Youtube channel for those patches that is already prepared for MobMuPlat
There is some Android apps that is made using Pure Data maybe the most useful and interesting ones being Reactable and Nodebeat plus a bunch of other interesting apps. But to make the patches you make in Pure Data as an Android app it is necessary with some more studies and it is not a straightforward operation for non programmers (even though it probably is the easiest way to make a more advanced music Android app) with MobMuPlat it definitely becomes only a question of learning Pure Data or like said use patches already made and if I understand correctly is that it is possible to use some of Pure Data extended as well, this is a limitation for doing Pure Data apps for Android where it is "limited" to Pure Data Vanilla.
So to use the app you do a or load a Pure Data patch into a program for your desktop and there you make the interface in one program and then load it into the app MobMuPlat on your device and badababim!!!
Easier to see the videos and be blown away with the possibilities of MobMuPlat!
This amazing app and software is for free!!! And yes Pure Data is for free to and have a thriving community expanding on it constantly!!!

Here is the links you need:

Designing Sound - Interviews Peter Brinkman  ( Sept 2013 )

Peter Brinkmann is a man that works for Google and have a keen interest and have worked hard to get the visual audio programming language Pure Data (for free and very interesting) into the Android world building on something called libPD that can also be used to get Pure Data into other systems. LibPD is also usable in conjunction with the programming language Processing (The Two Big Ears developers have implemented this in their Android application Circle and written about the process).  His latest news is of course Patchfield that can make audio apps interact with each other inside of Android. Sorry to say that since he released Patchfield there seems that there has not been too much interest from developers and so it is hard to get the ball rolling on Patchfield. So if you are a developer maybe take a look again at Patchfield or if you never heard about it take a look at the video that is part of the interview and go to Github and get involved!
It is open source god damn it!
The interview is from September 2013 but is an interesting read for anyone even slightly interested in developing Audio applications for Android.

So here is some links:

Two Big Ears the developers of Circle Synth for Android have now made it possible according to their website:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A good binaural system makes it possible to hear a sound from any point in space over any pair of headphones in real-time.

You know the problems — CPU hungry algorithms,no cross-platform support, compromised soundquality and implementation difficulties.

3Dception is a real-time binaural engine that is cross platform and easy to implement. In just a few minutes your game, app, virtual reality or augmented experience can sound as realistic and awesome as it looks.

* Efficient room modelling for enhanced spatialisation* Desktop and mobile support* Easy to integrate into existing workflows* No additional hardware or expensive headphones* High resolution HRTFs

With over a 50% reduction in CPU usage compared to other solutions, 3Dception gets the job done with no compromises.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is still not ready for Android but will be soon and it will also be available for use with LibPD and Pure Data and many other platforms. For free to use in non commercial projects...

DMach - The only true drum synthesizer for Android

12/13/2013

Picture
It is strange that nobody has tried to do a drum machine yet with real time synthesis.
Here is one in either case that has been out for about a month.
Not only is it the only one it sounds good to.
This is the second application that have been discovered by me the last month that almost got dismissed as soon as it got opened. As there is so many crappy pad / sequencer chuppililupps out there it looked like all it was going for it came down to four sample based drums in a very short sequencer.
Maybe it was that the look was different or that it was no publicity but lingered a little bit longer on it than would have happened otherwise. Discovering that pushing the left side a new page opened up where you got access to different parameters for each drum making it a truly flexible gem of an application.
In the simple interface is hidden a world of synthesized drums and even though it is only one bar to the sequencer it is so easy to switch the pattern around in real time.
Switching page you then have a very good way of interacting with the touch screen making changes again in real time. This has to be downloaded by anyone of you that want to use a good drum machine for live tweaking. Here it is would I dare say even better for live work than many hardware drum machines as you can sweep sounds with your fingers.
In this application it feels like a save mode is unnecessary as it is so good and easy to set up
and so fun to play with that it helps that you do not get bogged down in presets or saved sequences.
Plus as said before it sounds excellent!
I am just happy that it did not get thrown out, dismissed and cast out of my life because of short attention span!
Bonus points is that it is for free (would gladly have paid for it) open source so you can download the code and even better made in Pure Data, the open source visual programming language for making music.

Binaura - Harmonizer experiments for your web browser

11/15/2013

Picture
Binaura has done three beautiful applications for Android; Spheretones, Soundbow and Flux are also doing all kinds of interactive experiments and Harmonizer is another one that you can use directly in your web browser.
Some of these experiments like this one may or may not be converted into Android so it is always interesting to see what they are up to. One thing more that is interesting is that they use a lot of two free programming languages that may appeal to people that are not so bright when it comes to learning hardcore coding. (Like me).
One is called Processing being more for programming visuals and one that you may have heard about once in a while that uses patches and connections for audio called Pure Data. Have tried to learn a little bit of programming and must say that the only way that I found that works for me so far is to start with Processing as there is a lot of step by step instructions that are easy to follow and that you make something creative from the get go. Will write more about this the more I get into it as it is intriguing to say the least to learn.
To play with Harmonizer go here:

Depending on computer it may glitch etc.

Soundbow, SphereTones and Flux by Binaura

5/21/2013

Picture
These three applications are made by a group calling themselves Binaura and one of the creative processes they dedicate time to is Android applications so far these three mentioned above and hopefully many more to come!
These ones are all in a Automatic Sound generator style and all three with beautiful graphical interfaces- simple, elegant black and white.
Maybe the deeper one in way of functions is SphereTones.
After this SoundBow and the one with the least functions but the coolest one is Flux-
Flux the dark ambient instant music maker that goes good visually with ingestion of herbal tea.
There is not much more to add to SphereTones and Soundbow doing what they do,
doing it sounding good.
Flux being original and sounding like no other application there is a desire inside of me that hopes that it will be developed to give a little bit more control as it could be immensely useful for ambient sound making.

If you are interested in what they do more outside of the Android project go to their website:
http://www.binaura.net/space/en.html

Here is two videos for one of their projects outside of Android- but remember that they are working on a lot of other projects.
And now here is the Playstore videos of SoundBow and SphereTones and a soundfile of Flux.
SphereTones have more to give soundwise than what you see in the video, I think it is around ten to twelve different sounds that you can use in different combinations.
