Very interesting collection of films that can be used freely and even commercially!
It is all kind of odd things and also perfect for music videos and of course there is a lot of great samples to be found. Really recommendable to go and take a look. The danger is that hours will be lost as there is a lot and all more or less exciting...

https://www-muehlen.archive.org/details/prelinger&tab=collection

Here is what is said about usage of the material:

You are warmly encouraged to download, use and reproduce these films in
whole or in part, in any medium or market throughout the world. You are
also warmly encouraged to share, exchange, redistribute, transfer and copy
these films, and especially encouraged to do so for free.

Any derivative works that you produce using these films are yours to
perform, publish, reproduce, sell, or distribute in any way you wish

The apps mentioned here is of the type that I do not bring up here too often and have more to do with the practical/practice side of music making.
It is a mix of iOS and Android apps but a great deal of Android material.
It is worth a visit and pick up some ideas of what exists outside of the
music-making/Sequencer/Synthesizer world that gets over-represented here...

To take a look go here:

Zoundle plug in for searching freesound.org samples easier

Hey not directly for Android but can be very useful in either case.
So there is a website that is called freesound.org that host a humungous amount of samples that registered users upload and share.
It is pretty much a treasure trove of sounds of any kind from instruments to animals etc. and most of them being open to use freely.
In either case Zoundle is a plugin that will help you look for samples according to certain criteria and get them imported directly into your DAW.
This of course being easy to import to your device later...
To download the VST go here and scroll until you find it:
http://www.kvraudio.com/kvr-developer-challenge/2014/#dc14-9196

and for people that have not been to freesound.org before it is recommended to have visited at least once:

Groove3 great tutorial website - One month pass for free

7/18/2014

Groove3 is a website dedicated to tutorials of music software and concepts.
Most of it is regarding plugins and Daw's but even if you are using just Android for your music making there is some tutorials that will apply.
The ones I've seen and downloaded from before ( Reaper DAW tutorials ) have been very good and now after signing up yesterday will probably go through the one on the picture above as my drum programming skills are about 0.8%.
So this offer is only for streaming the tutorials as they also sell the tutorials for download. Each tutorial is normally some hours in length divided up in bite sized videos.

So to get thirty days of streaming videos go here:
https://www.groove3.com/str/redeem_code.php
Write the code-  get30days
And fill in the information ( email, username etc ) and get a confirmation and that is it.
you can start to stream any tutorial.

Another great thing is that they have a Android app making it possible to stream the videos directly on your device.

Soundlab - Open call for developers to help the disabled

Palm Sounds was mentioning a project called Soundlab and the website looked interesting  but I did not really had a full grip on it all and the meaning was to wait and investigate a little bit further. Luckily enough yesterday there was a interview with Ashley Elsdon (the man behind Palm Sounds) on CDM where everything gets explained.
He is also the man behind the project and it started in lower capacity in 2013, now it has grown and it seems that it is starting to take shape with a nice website and developers and companies starting to involve themselves.
Soundlab is basically a focal point to investigate / use music software  /  hardware to interact with people that have disabilities. As is obvious mobile devices lends themselves for this and it would be very good if there was more developers (and of course other people to!) that got involved to help out.
So please read the interview and then go and see the website.

Freesound.org - For many lifetimes of sounds

Many of you probably know this website already but if you do not know it is highly recommendable. It is a site where people upload sounds and one thing that makes a difference from many other sample sites is that the content is generated by users.
One other great thing that there is  a lot of field recordings making it excellent for any of us that do not have a field recorder and need some ambient fodder.
When I was going to write about this a month ago or so one of the samples that was presented on the frontpage was this excellent sound with a link to the video below.
There is a link to the sound to below directly from freesound.org.
