It is not bad by any means and think it is a case of comparing two good albums and if they only had released this it would have sounded better as it would have been without comparison. Yes it is a band that are sounding unique so you can kind of only compare them with themselves.
I do root for them strongly and there is a unique vision that you do not hear that often in this day and age...
You can hear some of the influences- I am sure that they have been listening to some of the so called Kraut rock bands of the seventies but here it is just that an influence giving way to a more personal vision not an appropriation and doing something "smart" and hip. Copying it and dressing it up for modern times.
Where the feeling of hey look what we can do with our intellectual prowess forgetting that there should also be some soul in there.
Think in the end that this album is more case of testing some things out and having heard the work in progress by the main man in DYEH it is returning to something more in line with the first album and it sounds promising. Returning to more acoustic recordings bringing back some of the dynamics of the first album.
Both albums are for free and if you ask I am sure that they would send you the SunVox files to take a look at.
My favorite song from the album that I do listen to often is Sunrox partly made using the the early version of Virtual ANS feeding parts of it into SunVox.
